Classic chocolate layer cake filled with whipped cream and cherries.

Ingredients
  

  • Chocolate Cake:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot coffee or hot water
  • Cherry Filling & Syrup:
  • 2 cups pitted cherries fresh or frozen
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Optional: 1–2 tbsp kirsch cherry brandy
  • Whipped Cream:
  • 3 cups heavy whipping cream cold
  • cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Decoration:
  • Chocolate shavings or curls
  • Whole cherries

Instructions
 

  • Bake chocolate cake layers and cool.
  • Simmer cherries and make syrup.
  • Whip cream to stiff peaks.
  • Soak, fill, and frost cake.
  • Decorate, chill, and serve.

Notes

  • Cool the cake fully before assembling
  • Syrup adds moisture and flavor
  • Chill before slicing
  • Best served cold
