Best Brunswick Stew Recipe

Thick Southern-style stew with chicken, pork, vegetables, and smoky tomato broth.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken rotisserie works great
  • 2 cups cooked shredded pork pulled pork or leftover pork roast
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 1 14.5 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 15 oz can corn, drained
  • 1 15 oz can lima beans or butter beans, drained
  • 1 cup diced potatoes optional, traditional in some regions
  • ¼ cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt adjust to taste
  • ¼ tsp cayenne or red pepper flakes optional

Instructions
 

  • Sauté onion and garlic.
  • Add broth, tomatoes, and vegetables.
  • Stir in seasonings and meats.
  • Simmer until thick and flavorful.
  • Adjust seasoning and serve.

  • Thick stew is traditional
  • Simmer low and slow
  • Adjust sweetness and smoke to taste
  • Excellent leftovers
